Squirrels are special yesterday, today and this time tomorrow

I have squirrels, lots of squirrels, that live around me here at the tree house. I wholeheartedly enjoy watching them. I feed them in the winter. Last year, late summer, I almost got to observe a bunch of babies grow up after a mother squirrel gave birth in a planter that hangs off the side of my deck. She nested, and I got to watch her gathering leaves to pad her future home. Sadly, she moved on right after she gave birth. The tree house was too noisy for the nursery I guess.

So now I just take pictures of squirrels passing by, and enjoy their antics as the agile acrobats of the tree world. Below is a picture of a little squirrel that comes to visit my kitty, Opie Taylor. I do mean visit. They eyeball each other through the windows, and this little guy imitates the way Opie hangs out on the overstuffed arms of my couch. Look for yourself....

These two are not the only squirrels I've had pop into my life. I've enjoyed meeting another squirrel, the Squirrel Queen. SQ, as we call her, is one of my friends and follower's of my blog. SQ is a photographer, and that's what drew me to her. Her work is awesome. Her friendship has been awesome. Many of you already know her, but for those of you who do not, you should introduce yourselves to her.

Yesterday she popped in to tell me she had awarded me with "One Very Lovely Blog Award". WOW. I'm a pretty new blogger in the blog world. This award means a lot to me. Just having all of you pop in like you do to read is an award in itself. And the cool thing about awards in the blog world, I'm learning, is that one pass the award along to others after receiving it. Sah-weet!!!!

The rules for sharing this award are different than other awards because instead of just passing it on to just anyone, you are supposed to pass it on to NEW to YOU blogs you've just become familiar with, which is very, very cool! Here are the rules for this Very Lovely award:

1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link. You can also make a comment about the person who gave the award to you by asking your readers to stop by their blog, pay them a visit, leave a comment, or even 'follow' their blog if they feel led to.

2) Pass the award on to other blogs that you’ve newly discovered. Contact these bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award. Just go to their site and leave a comment to one of their posts telling them you have an award for them and to please come by your blog to get it. Just a little note: You pick the number of blogs to pass the award to, just give it to those you have recently discovered.

A second note, I am not passing this award along as much as I am giving you, my followers, a list of blogs to check out and hopefully follow. I know some of those I have selected may prefer not to participate in this little exercise and that is fine, no problem. Please visit these blogs and if you leave a comment maybe say Lille Diane sent you.

Here are some new peeps I've discovered blogging...

Rain, from Mountain Mamma is quite an inspiration to me. Her story is one of courage, guts and passion to climb back up the mountain of life. And she makes me laugh... Rain and I are going kayaking together some day soon.

MzzLily, has also inspired me. She writes from her heart, and understands my blog reading fetish. I'm happy I'm not the only one hooked on reading about all of you.... She's writing her first book, too.

Herrad, precious, Herrad. I've never experienced anyone who makes me want to live every day with passion as much as Herrad does. She's probably recieved this award 299 times. Let me be the 300th. Stroll with her down the streets of Amsterdam. Send her a hug from me when you stop in to visit her, please.

Snowbrush, has more than enough good stuff to fill several books. When he writes it's like you are sitting on a veranda in the south listening to a master story teller. Snow is my friend. He's honest with me, and we all need a dose of honesty to keep us real--to keep us on our toes.

Tina, at "Yes, that's my child screaming...." need I say more?? She's taking life in stride and has time left over to display her amazing talent with her passion, "twinklescrapbooks". That's amazing right there....

Sharon's Paws Create, is an illustrator and artist. If you enjoy someone who can paint and draw animals and has a joyful spirit, she's got both.

Michelle "Lady Bug", says, "I am not afraid to speak my mind here. Let's face it, everyone has something to say but not everyone is strong enough to actually say it out loud and keeping things bottled up inside is not healthy." I couldn't have said it better.

The song that's playing is for all of you reading. You are special. Thanks for writing the things I love to read, posting the pictures I love to look at, and helping me stay focused to heal. I look forward to discovering more wonderful people in blog land.

Happy trails of discovery everyone...

  1. Thank you for the award and for the kind words that came with it, Ms Lille Diane.

I am happy to read of your progress in your healing. i trust that in another year, I too will have glad tidings to report. I am already having an occasional good day and, more rarely, a good night. By good, I mean not obsessed with how much I hurt; I won't be able to actually do much for sometime, and then it will be time for the second surgery.

I have a squirrel feeder and a squirrel house, both of which I made in the good old days when I actually had two usable arms.

Here in Eugene, we have a type of squirrel that is found no where but the Northwest. it is a smallish red squirrel that is called the Douglas Squirrel after David Douglas. Western Gray Squirrels are also found here, but they are the minority. Although smaller, the Douglas squirrels (aka chickarees) soon run any off that dare to appear in my yard. If I had a totem animal, it would be the squirrel.

Thank you again. I feel that I should say more as thank you does not adequately convey my emotion, but know that it is there.

P.S. I would love a card from your travels. I know of at least two Australian bloggers, Natalie and Lisa--I think you know of them too. There is a third also, if not a fourth, but I lose track of whom is from where.

  3. ***Snow....

I am indeed a fan of yours, Snow. I am so deeply happy you are feeling better. I, too, believe with you that in a year from now (hopefully much, MUCH sooner) you will be feeling 2000% better, and will be amazed how far you've come. When is your next operation scheduled for or do you know yet?

I would love to travel back through OR again. I love Eugene, Bend and the coast line.... sigh.... I will hand deliver you a postcard, and will bring a pen for you to sign a copy of your book which I know will be published. I will smile, and say "I knew him when..."

I would love to see one of the squirrel houses and feeders you made. I'll go google the Douglas squirrel now so I can see what it looks like. Plus, will look on your blog to see find the other Australian bloggers.

Sleep well, my friend. I know how hard it is to sleep, stay asleep or get to sleep when you're in such pain.

    Hugzzzzz!

  4. ***MzzLily....
LOL!!! Now that was funny!!! By this time tomorrow.....

Awwww did you see his little red head??? Now if I could just teach him to carry a fishing pole and whistle the Andy Griffith theme song.... I'd be rich enough to buy you, Rain, and myself a 100 of those Canon cameras she was talkin' about that you two want that can zoom in on the pimples on the face of the man in the moon... ;-)

    Hugzzzzzz, MzzLily.

  5. I was going to say something about liking squirrels too ... barbecued, but that second pic made me laugh. I'm off to check your awardees

  6. ***Jase...

I did just lol (out loud) reading that... I have a couple of pix of the squirrel straddling the tree branch staring towards my cat. I think he totally messes with my cat because he knows Opie can't get him... smart lil guy. I would have posted one cept' it was a wee bit blurry.

Much to my dismay they eat squirrels here in Ohio... well some parts of Ohio. Much to the squirrels dismay my cat would probably give them a try, too.... with or without BBQ sauce. (sowwy SQ...)

  7. we don't have squirrels here, but we do have possums, and they have made it to the menu in some places. They are a pest here, so we eat them ... barbecued.
I'm off to check your pics. I think I saw them last time but I would like another look. I also like hanging out in this blog because the music is good.

  8. Stay as long as you'd like...music is good. Thanks, Jase. You should check out Nolly Posh... great lady & tunes.

    Don't they call possum varmints???

  9. First I have to tell you I love the photo of the squirrel spread out on the branch like Opie Taylor. Those two photos together like that are priceless.

It is always fun to stop by the tree house for a visit, listen to the music, enjoy the view and chat for awhile. You are most deserving of this award. MzzLily and I go way back but I will be checking out all the other blogs, very interesting group.
    Have a wonderful day.
    Hugs,
    Judy
PS, all this squirrel talk, I may have to post some new photos. Most of my little friends are Douglas squirrels, very common in this part of WA.

  11. Thanks Lille Diane! You said some really nice things, and yes we WILL go kayaking together, if not by the treehouse, sea-kayaking on the shores of PEI!!! I love the photos of the lazy-dazy squirrel and Opie Taylor!

  12. ***SQ, Judy....

My pleasure, and especially my pleasure that you liked the pix of O.T. and his friend. You may grab that pic of the squirrel for your collection should you wish. :-)

Thanks again for the award... Hugzzzzz, SQ

    ***Magdalena....
I love your blog. I will go fill my spirit up there every day. Thank you for stopping by. And, yes, I will have a great day and a great weekend. ;-) I wish the same for you....

    Hugzzzzzz, Magdalena.

    ***Sista Rain....
Awwww, you are MOST welcome! And, YES, to sea-kayaking even if it scares me a wee bit. Bumpier than a lake...I'm assuming.... but that's why you wear a life vest. ;-)

LOL on OT and his friend. I'm going to the zoo with Superman today. I have my happy pants on and my ball cap! (oh I am wearing a tee shirt, too....)~~~ (and fit-flops) gotta wear the fit-flops!!!

    Hugzzzz sista!!!!

  13. Oh yes, life vest is obligatory! I've gone sea kayaking before, but chickened out and stayed close to the shore when I saw a few whales spouting water into the air!!! It's a fear I intend to face soon enough!

  14. Congratulations on your award. I am a lover of Squirrels blog and found you through her. Great blog, I look forward to checking it out.

  15. Hmmm... Have you never noticed how many times I've stolen your line in my comments? I was just coming here to do it again! I went outside to tackle those stuborn sticky things. I took and extra Pampered Chef kitchen spritzer and filled it with UNdiluted Round-Up! I stood there gazing at my work and said aloud, "I might not have a garden at all this time tomorrow!" Had to run in and tell you;)

As far as the camera... I'm going to try to fix my old one. I had the most beautiful deep pink sunset and the pics turned it yellow! Plus the macro isn't as good. My old one has a broken battery door - that's all. But I got tired of carrying it around with a C-clamp holding it shut! But I've got an idea...
