The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... (I'll see you again one day, Miss Frankie)

  7. I'm sitting here, reading blogs during the commercials. I'm watching, for the umpteenth time, Stepmom. The salty tears, with their excess draining into my over-worn throat, are burning. Then I read this...

I guess a good cry was long over-due!

RIP Smoochie, Willie, Biscuit, Don King, Old Friend, Smokey, Jude, Gunner...

  8. I've heard the rainbow bridge thing before... I try to be hardened and non sentimental about things, but I just can't help tear up at the memory of my animals... i always believed as a kid this place exsists, I guess kids have a natural inclination to trust in the afterlife, it's a shame we lose that along the way.. I can only hope I was right.. I love the idea of this place :-)

  9. Not too long ago read that this place must be found somewhere close to Timbuktu, as a friend of mine, called Mr. Bones, is already there and sends a message from time to time.
If I think that it might be raining there, it would be possible to create that rainbow of yours, becoming that bridge into 'better-land'.
    A nice weekend to you.

  12. When I get to the land of the Big Rock Candy Mountain, I'll give that special whistle that calls them.

"In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
    There's a land that's fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
And the birds and the bees
    And the cigarette trees
    The lemonade springs
    Where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains."

You and Miss Frankie can meet us there.

  14. That is a very nice poem. I realise that the author is unknown though I am not sure If Ms. Frankie belongs to you or the author.

The photo depicting a dog that is very caring & has it's eyes intent on the owner who photographed it.

Parting is a very painful thing & takes some time to get over it. Sometimes even months.

I had a pup that was only 2 months old which had jaundice. Took it to the vet & willing to spend money on saving it's life but wasn't successful. Money is not greater than life, Love is immeasurable....

On the final day, I saw my pup gave a long & intent look at each one of us in the house. Each look lasting about a minute. He was gazing as if was bidding goodbye. I was aware at the time & I alerted everyone in the living room to take notice of it. Few hours later I saw the lifeless body of my precious dog in the porch.

I will never forget that look until today. It was 18 yrs ago & the relationship with the pup only 60 days. How painful must it be if the dog has been with you for many years?

My deepest condolences if Ms. Frankie belonged to you.

  15. Very comforting sentiments. While I read I remembered Getty, a whippet. I used to walk him for my daughter. He had the most beautiful eyes (sight hound) and I miss him.

  16. What a wonderful post. As a look down at my 8.5 year old german shepherd and my 11.5 year old tabby cat it makes me hope this place really exists for them when they move on from this life. Thanks

  17. Yes, this is my baby girl. I lost her over a year ago but was reminded of losing her again, and all my other babies waiting for me at Rainbow Bridge, when a friend of mine lost her pup recently. I have the best followers in the world. Thank you all for sharing your hearts, shedding some tears with me, and believing there's a place called the Rainbow Bridge.

    ~~~Mark... I'll meet you at the Big Rock Candy Mountain, my friend.
