Our Sedona Wedding

So this is the big reveal... On September 22, 2010, I married Superman in Sedona. Who is the man beneath the cape or beneath the the super sized S on his chest? Who is this man Woodstock Lily calls Superman? You are about to find out.

For those of you who know me personally, or have followed my blog regularly, you know I call my man, "Superman". He's the one who's helped me heal physically, and especially emotionally, after a bad auto accident 2.5 years ago. He's earned that name simply by being himself; a man of great integrity, a man with an ability to love others unconditionally, and a man who can bend steel with his smile. Even my family and friends acknowledge him as Superman.

Sedona, AZ is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and has been one of my favorite places to visit for over 35 years. Superman knew this, and researched to find us a wedding package there that suited us both spiritually and aesthetically. He most definitely achieved that by finding Sedona Destination Weddings. It's owned and operated by a dynamic couple, Rev. Iala Jaggs and her husband, Akal David Jaggs. We selected the two day package called Sedona Song Wedding Package. It allowed us to spend a entire morning the day before our wedding with Akal touring vortexes in the Sedona area. Not only was the tour scenic, it was educational and the spiritual experience we both wanted. That evening we slept well because we could visualize where our ceremony would take place the next day.

Rev. Iala worked with us prior to arriving by phone, and email, as often as we needed which helped us feel comfortable planning such an important event 1000's of miles away. We selected our vows from a nice selection she has available. She encouraged us to add to it or change it to make it ours. Since we were traveling prior to the wedding, Rev. Iala even arranged ordering our flowers... going above and beyond to get me lilies in my bouquet.

The evening before our wedding it started raining heavily. Arizona has been in a 13 year drought so the locals were celebrating. I was happy for them but was concerned how it would effect our outdoor celebration. When we woke up the next day it was still raining. I was trying hard not to focus on my sunburn I got the day before during our vortex tour with Akal. I'd forgot to put my sunscreen on. I was also trying hide a back brace under my lovely top. And now.... Rain? I had not been prepared for rain.

We stayed at l'auberge de sedona which is probably one of the most romantic hotels I've ever stayed at. On our walk to the main lobby that morning I wondered how romantic I'd look with wet hair, a bright red sunburn AND a back brace. I was beginning to pout a wee bit when a man at the front desk told me. "Don't worry. It will not rain on your wedding!" I had to smile. I knew everything would be fine. Quite truthfully, I was so grateful that I was simply able to walk, let alone climb the steep trails to the Airport Vortex because I spent the entire summer off and on crutches, and in and out of wheels chairs or motorized carts due to a bad back and knee injury. I would have even been able to laugh at getting drenched if it meant we could get married that day as planned.

We gathered at least four umbrellas from the hotel "just in case" then jumped quickly into Akal's car to avoid getting drenched. Amazingly, by the time we reached the first traffic light the sun began peeking through the thick, black clouds. Then the rain stopped abruptly! It stayed stopped for our entire wedding.

We stood on a mountain top overlooking Earth's Pandora with the wind blowing so hard at times we could barely stand in one spot. No one got wet. No one got blown away... except for us; spiritually, emotionally and physically. There's not one part of our wedding that was not magical. It was a breathtakingly, beautiful day from start to end. Plus, our wedding pictures are dramatic and stunning with all those black clouds and red rocks.

Thank you Akal and Rev. Iala. And a special thank you to Patricia, our photographer. She and Superman sat for about 20-25 minutes picking cactus out of my skirt. I kid you not... Approximately 100 cacti by each one to be exact. And it didn't rain one drop on us then either but it began pouring when Patricia dropped us back at our hotel.

Ta Ta Ta Da Ta Ta Ta Da....

  8. That wedding was so YOU! It was perfect! No wonder you call him Superman. You right about that place, too... it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I'm sorry you had to worry about the rain, but you know that made it perfect... the colors are so beautiful after a rain, especially with the dark clouds. It was definitely a setting worthy of a true artist.

May God bless this union with happiness and joy!
